Going into the game against Woodside the girls had many odds stacked against them. Woodside placed first out of 8 teams, had scored the most goals out of all 8 teams, hadn’t been scored on, and homestead was missing many players due to holiday break and injuries. Even with many things going against them, they had that “easy money” attitude. The whistle blew and they battled like never before. Emerson Zufelt took away their shut out streak 20 minutes into the first half, kicking the game off into high gear. With about 5 minutes left in the first half Lindsay Felipa received a beautiful through ball from Amirah Curry, and had a 50 yard break away beating 2 defenders and goal keeper. Mustangs were then up 2-0 at half time. Our incredibly tough back line and goal keepers shut out the “shut out team” in the second half giving the mustangs a 2-0 victory and first place in the tournament. The girls worked so hard to get the victory, and I couldn’t be more proud of them!
