Homestead also had a successful opening to its season, winning two of its first three games.
The Mustangs shut out Pinewood 15-0 in Homestead’s opener on Feb. 27.
Carinne Peterson was 4 for 4, including a double and triple, with three runs scored and an RBI for Homestead. Kaylee Ramirez added a 3 for 3 performance at the plate, including a double, with two runs and three RBI. Meghan Hook, Jasmine Lopez and Kelly Chu all had two hits, and Sierra Fry and Megan O’Neil added doubles for the Mustangs.
On the mound, Ramirez and Chu combined for a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts for Homestead.
The Mustangs then were edged by Woodside 6-5 on Feb. 28. The Wildcats scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh for the victory.
Peterson again had a great game at the plate, going 4 for 4, including a double, with three RBI. Chu also had a mult-hit game, going 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI. Hook added a double for Homestead.
But the Mustangs bounced back with a 5-4 victory over Westmont on March 5. Homestead scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the victory.
Hook was 2 for 3, including a solo home run, with two runs scored and an RBI. O’Neil and Patterson were both 2 for 3 with a run scored, and O’Neil also drove in a run.
